South Asian Mental Health

As someone who grew up in India and holds an identity of being a South Asian Woman Therapist, I hold deep passion in working with South Asian individuals and couples. I believe the accessibility to mental health care directed towards South Asians is rare and the stigma attached to it is particularly hight. Through our therapeutic work, we can work on developing stronger sense of our identity and feel empowered.

Common issues shared in therapy by South Asians :

  • Difficulty drawing boundaries with family & in-laws

  • High functioning anxiety and depression

  • Childhood trauma with lack of support and dismissal

  • Violence and abuse at home among parents

  • Societal pressure to get married and have kids

  • Stress from wedding preparations

  • SA women experiencing difficulty asserting at work

  • Lack of fulfillment from work

  • Internalized self criticism

  • Lack of communication and boundaries with partner

  • A desire to engage in intentional parenting
